Siblings Bellemy and Octavia are interesting characters with backstories to keep you up at night, and the revelation about how they ended up with the hundred is filled with worry and courage.Īnother character to look out for is Glass, who isn’t in the TV series sadly, who too has an amazing backstory and the only real love relationship I picked up on in the book between her and Luke. Wells’ decisions really put me off the character, and while it’s these actions that make his part in the story more prominent, I didn’t really warm up to him as the book went along. There are quite a few characters to keep track of in the book, but some stand out more than others.Ĭlarke is a nice character, and angry and moody, but there was nothing exceptional I found about her or why she was made leader of the hundred. There is an obvious love triangle going on there, even though not all the characters are into the concept, it’s not as overwhelming in the book as it sometimes comes across in books. The book is written from multiple point of views of characters and while I’m usually not a fan of too many views in a book, this worked well here because you’re able to experience each of the characters emotions and thoughts, and get more information about their past and how they ended up as part of the hundred. The premise of the book is fantastic and the plot is fairly unique.

There are some time jumps to take the reader back to the past to give insight into current situations, and it’s easy to distinguish what part of the story you are in and what timeline you’re following. The Hundred is an easy read with a good pace. No one knows if they will survive the mission, let alone the landing, and the hundred have no idea what is waiting for them on the surface and who they can trust to ensure their survival. They are sending one hundred juvenile criminals down, expendable to their society on a dangerous mission to Earth. Now the leaders of the remaining population are ready to recolonise the planet, not knowing if it’s safe to do so yet. There was no choice but to evacuate after a devastating nuclear war destroyed Earth and life on it. Humanity now lives on spaceships far above Earth’s radioactive surface. I think I only got halfway through the second season before I was distracted by other things. I started watching the series a few years ago but never got around to finishing it.
