Winograde also created the title role of Volpone in John Musto's new comic opera commissioned by Wolf Trap Opera Company. Reviewing his performance Anthony Tommasini of The New York Times wrote: "Joshua Winograde, a strapping bass-baritone, had a solid City Opera debut as Melisso". Winograde made his New York City Opera debut as Melisso in Alcina in the 2003/2004 season.
The production was directed by three-time Olivier award-winning director Francesca Zambello and conducted by Houston Grand Opera Music Director Patrick Summers. As his last project as a member of the Houston Grand Opera Studio, JOSHUA WINOGRADE (Second Armed Man/Priest) created the role of the King in Oscar-winning composer Rachel Portman's opera The Little Prince (libretto by Olivier award-winning playwright Nicholas Wright based on the book by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry).
